People often ask us if they need coaching experience, or experience owning a business, in order to become a successful business coach. We are not worried about your specific job title. As long as we can see that you have the right attitude and drive to become a coach.

Ideal previous experience would be:

  • Business owner
  • Executive position
  • Some sort of coaching

What experience do I need to be a business coach?

We are very selective about who we accept into the Business Coach Academy Certified Partner Programme. A huge part of this selection process is the experience and background of the people who are applying. We have found that it is much easier and quicker to get results with people who have some form of business experience.

It’s not about having specific coaching experience. That’s what we are experts in and what the programme is here to give you. Your experience is more about working with businesses and leading people.

Previous Business Owners

People who have been successful business owners are a good example of useful previous experience. Having said that, those with previous business failures can actually give coaches a great perspective. These experiences have taught them valuable lessons that they can use in their coaching sessions. Even if past business endeavours have not been successful, you now have valuable information that you can pass on to others.

Executive Position

You don’t have to have grown a huge business on your own. Just having some knowledge of the business world like a corporate background, being part of a team, or being in a management position is useful.

By having this kind of background you would have seen how systems are put into place or if you have run a department you’ve actually worked with people to get the best out of them.

Having the experience of moving up in a company and working with people or leading a team, is a great experience. Because in these roles you would have had to mentor people, have meetings and be in a leadership position.

These are all useful things to take into your coaching endeavours. You can easily incorporate your skills with the new system you learn through our Partner Programme.

Coaching

Another great experience is if you have been a coach in any capacity. This could be a life coach, career coach or mentor. This experience will already have given you a great understanding of how to work with people and build a coaching relationship.

This is the kind of experience we look for when trying to find the best people to join our Certified Partner Programme.
